First Light Run FAQs
If you can't find the answer you're looking for, please use the contact us form and we will respond as soon as possible.
When do entries close?
Every First Light Run has a capped capacity to ensure the safety of the city centre route, and enjoyment of all participants. This means that once we reach capacity entries close! Unfortunately, we cannot predict when this will be as it is different for each city.
Can I enter on the morning?
No entries will be available on the morning of the events.
How old do I need to be to enter?
There is no minimum or maximum age to take part, if you’re aged under 16 you must be accompanied by an adult.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, you can bring your dog, they must be on a standard lead, we do not allow canicross/extendable leads due to the nature of the city centre routes.
Can I run with a buggy?
Yes, you can, single or double! Please be mindful of other participants, especially where the route may narrow.
Can I take part in a wheelchair?
Yes, you can, all we ask is that you get in touch and let us know in advance.
I am visually impaired; can I take part?
Yes, you can, and we will provide your guide with a complimentary entry. Please get in touch and we can arrange this for you.
What is included in the entry price?
Every participant receives a unique technical t shirt, unique event medal and refreshments at the end. The entry price also covers costs associated with putting on the event. These costs include city centre road closures, stewards and venue hire charges.
Is First Aid available?
Yes, every First Light Run has medics on site, for both at the beginning and end and on the routes if needed.
How do I get to the event?
Our vision for First Light Run is to be as sustainable as possible. Therefore, we discourage coming to the event by car, or please do try and car share. Event information shared for each event ahead of the day will contain details on the best car parks and public transport available. We also encourage walking or cycling to the event, if possible, whilst maintaining your personal safety as it will be early and probably dark.
Can I defer or transfer my entry?
We do not allow deferrals, but we do allow transfers. Please visit your entry profile via Eventrac where you’ll find how to do this, there is an administration fee of £5, and the transfer must be completed seven days before the event date.
Why isn’t the event timed?
The ethos of First Light Runs is that they are something to enjoy without any added pressures, before beginning your Friday. Therefore, people can time themselves if they wish, but we are removing the need to complete the route in a specific time. There are no results other than the amazing photos we get of everyone taking part, and no cut off times.
How far is the route?
Every First Light Run is approximately 5km. We say ‘approximately’ because the priority for us is to offer a unique, closed road route through a city centre so if this makes it a little under or over 5km, this is what it is!
Are there any refreshments along the route?
No, there are no refreshments along the route so please do bring your own if you think you’ll need them. There will be water offered at the end.
Are there toilets available?
Yes, every First Light Run has adequate toilet facilities available at or near to where everyone meets up.
Is there a bag drop or changing facilities?
We are unable to offer bag drop or changing facilities at the events. Please do come ready to take part and carry any small belongings with you.
How much gets donated to charity?
10% of revenue from each event goes directly back to the chosen charity. Each city event is associated with a charity local to that city.
Which charities are being supported?
The charities differ each year, the chosen charity for each event will be named at the point of entry, with the option to donate to that charity. Previous charity partners have been Rockinghorse in Brighton, Emmaus in Brighton and Maggie’s in Nottingham.
How do I know where the event starts and at what time?
Event information will be shared with you ahead of the event date, depending on the city you have chosen to take part in. Each microsite on our website has a route map within it. Every First Light Run starts at 5:30am, at first light!
Can I wear headphones?
We do not allow the use of standard headphones. All our routes are within city centres where we require our participants to follow instructions from stewards and volunteers. The nature of First Light Run is that on some parts of the route, traffic takes priority. We therefore need everyone to always be aware of their surroundings; plus, this way you’ll also hear the unique morning sounds at first light and the gentle buzz from everyone else around you.
Who organises First Light Run?
The events have been created by Jo Osborne who has organised events for 23 years and has previously organised the UK 5.30 events in Brighton and Nottingham since 2017. Jo is also a runner and is passionate about creating events that have the participant’s needs and desires at the forefront. Jo works with local people in each city to ensure that every event has that community feel whilst connecting with local groups, businesses and charities.
How can I get involved with First Light Run other than taking part?
Please contact Jo and the team via info@firstlightrun.com
Why do I have to collect my t shirt in advance?
Due to the nature of the event and the early start on a weekday, we don’t have time to hand out every t shirt on the event morning. We understand that in exceptional circumstances it is impossible to get to the t shirt collection so please get in touch and we will try and accommodate requests. The t shirt acts as your ‘ticket’ to the event so it must be worn on the morning. There are no ‘race numbers’ at our events.
